Yarn and Thread

Yarn consists of long lengths of interwoven fibers that resembles thick string. This material is used for many craft and clothing purposes, including weaving, knitting, crocheting and even sewing. Some varieties are made from natural fibers, including wool, camel hair, buffalo hair or even exotic fibers like ostrich feathers and cat hair. However, the most common material from which this thick string-like product is made is cotton. Synthetic fibers, such as rayon and acrylics, are also used to make many mass-produced varieties.

One of the wonderful qualities that makes yarn such a common craft and sewing item is its availability in a multitude of colors. Some varieties are sold in their natural color, while others are dyed with natural and artificial dyes. Cotton versions are especially suited to bright colors. All versions are generally sold by weight and come in balls of 25, 50 or 100 grams. This makes it easy for crafters to purchase just the amount they need for their next project.
